Wajir -Kenya

Wajir County has in recent years witnessed the rise of a remarkable young leader whose passion for sports and youth empowerment has earned him admiration across the North Eastern region.  His name is Feisal Abdikhadir, but to many, he is simply known as “Lasief” recognized for his involvement in youth and community initiatives.

At a time when many young people struggle to find opportunities or role models, Lasief has stepped forward to lead from the front. He is currently the youngest football coach in Wajir County, serving as the head coach of Heritage FC, a local team that has recorded impressive achievements under his guidance. Through discipline, teamwork and mentorship, he has helped shape raw talent into competitive athletes while building a strong sports culture in the community.

His journey into leadership has, however, gone far beyond football.

A Strong and Consistent Youth Voice

Over the past few years, Feisal has emerged as one of the most outspoken and responsible youth spokespersons in Wajir County. In many occasions he engaged community elders, local leaders and institutions on issues affecting young people  including unemployment, lack of opportunities, drug abuse, and social exclusion.

One of the key challenges that he continues to speak about is the growing trend of irregular migration to Libya and Europe, where many young people from the region fall into the hands of human traffickers and criminal networks. Using community forums, social platforms and personal influence, Lasief has repeatedly warned about the danger of these journeys, urging the youth to instead seek safer, lawful and sustainable opportunities.

Those close to him say he speaks not for recognition  but out of genuine concern for a generation that risks losing its future.

Empowerment Through Sports and Community Engagement

Sports remains central to his mission. Through Heritage FC and youth tournaments, Feisal has created safe and constructive environment  where young people can develop talent, learn teamwork and stay away from crime and drugs. His approach to coaching focuses not only on performance, but also character, discipline and self-belief.

At the same time, he has played a key role in:

strengthening youth participation in community development

encouraging leadership and civic awareness

promoting education and mentorship

fostering peaceful coexistence

connecting youth to opportunities and dialogue platforms

His leadership style is often described as humble, accessible and people-centered  qualities that have earned him respect from both youth and elders.

A New Generation of Leadership

Many observers in the county note that Lasief represents a new wave of leadership in Wajir County, grounded in service rather than status. In a region where young people often lack representation, he has proven that influence can be earned through action, integrity and commitment.

Many now see him as an example of what is possible when young people are given space to lead.

More Than a Coach

For the youth of Wajir, Feisal Abdikhadir ‘Lasief’ is more than a football coach.

He is a mentor.

A community organiser.

A voice for the vulnerable.

And a symbol of hope.

His journey is still unfolding  but already, his contribution to youth empowerment has left a lasting mark across the county.

In a region often associated with hardship and limited opportunity, his story stands out as one of resilience, dedication and purpose  proof that real change begins at community level.
