As Kenya’s political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the 2027 General Election, a new generation of leaders is steadily emerging with fresh perspectives, renewed energy, and a determination to shape the future of their communities. Across the country, young men and women are increasingly stepping into the political arena, driven by a desire to influence governance, champion accountability, and address the challenges facing their generation.

In Wajir County, where politics has traditionally been dominated by seasoned leaders, youthful aspirants are beginning to redefine the conversation. They are seeking to demonstrate that leadership is not measured by age, but by vision, commitment, integrity, and the ability to serve the public.

Among this new crop of leaders is a youthful aspirant seeking the Wagalla Ganyure Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat. Through his journey, he hopes to inspire more young people to actively participate in leadership and contribute to the county’s development.

In this exclusive Siyad Reports feature, the aspiring MCA reflects on the growing role of young people in politics, the qualities that define effective leadership, the challenges faced by emerging leaders, and the vision that inspired him to seek elective office.

Asked why more young people are joining politics and public service, the aspirant said today’s youth are increasingly aware that their future depends on the decisions made today and that they can no longer remain spectators.

“Young people are increasingly realizing that they cannot afford to remain on the sidelines while decisions affecting their future are being made. They are more informed, connected through technology, and determined to address issues such as unemployment, education, healthcare, and accountability. Rather than waiting for change, many young people now want to be part of creating it. This growing awareness, combined with a desire to make a meaningful impact in their communities, is inspiring more youth to pursue leadership and public service,” he said.

Speaking about the values that define effective youth leadership, he emphasized that public trust is earned through service, honesty, and accountability rather than political titles or popularity.

“Effective youth leadership is built on integrity, humility, honesty, competence, and service. A good leader must listen to the people, remain accessible, and always put the interests of the community ahead of personal gain. Trust is earned through consistent action, keeping promises, being transparent, and delivering tangible results. Leadership is not about titles or popularity it is about serving people with dedication and accountability,” he noted.

The aspiring MCA acknowledged that entering politics at a young age has not been without obstacles. Like many young leaders across the country, he said limited resources and doubts about the capability of younger candidates remain significant challenges. However, he believes such experiences have strengthened his resolve to continue serving his community.

“Like many young leaders, I have encountered challenges such as limited resources, skepticism due to my age, and the perception that leadership should be left to older generations. However, these experiences have strengthened my resilience and taught me the importance of patience, hard work, and consistency. I have learned that true leadership is built over time through service, integrity, and earning the confidence of the people,” he explained.

On his decision to contest the Wagalla Ganyure Ward MCA seat, the youthful aspirant said his motivation stems from a genuine commitment to improving the lives of local residents and ensuring that development reaches every part of the ward.

“My decision to seek the Wagalla Ganyure Ward MCA seat is driven by a genuine desire to serve my people and contribute to the development of our ward. Having interacted closely with residents, I understand the challenges they face, including youth unemployment, inadequate infrastructure, access to quality healthcare, education, and water services. I believe our ward has enormous potential that can be unlocked through inclusive and accountable leadership,” he said.

He added that, if elected, his priority would be to promote inclusive development while ensuring that public resources are managed transparently and benefit all residents.

“If entrusted with this responsibility, my vision is to build a united, empowered, and progressive Wagalla Ganyure Ward where every resident has an opportunity to thrive. I will prioritize youth and women empowerment, improve public participation in decision-making, advocate for better infrastructure and essential services, and ensure that public resources are managed transparently and equitably. My commitment is to be a leader who listens, delivers, and remains accountable to the people throughout my tenure,” he said.

As the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election, the emergence of young leaders reflects a broader conversation about the future of leadership in Kenya. Whether they ultimately secure electoral victory or not, many are bringing new ideas and encouraging greater youth participation in governance. Their growing presence signals a shift in which leadership is increasingly being viewed through the lens of service, innovation, and accountability rather than age alone.

For the aspiring Wagalla Ganyure Ward MCA, the journey is about more than seeking elective office. It is about demonstrating that young people have a meaningful role to play in shaping the future of their communities and inspiring others to believe that leadership begins with a willingness to serve.
